Report: WeWork to open 3-floor, 60,000 sq. ft. space at L’Avenue
WeWork is reportedly opening a second Montreal location in the glitzy L’Avenue condo building. The new space will hold 600 workers over three floors and 60,000 sq. ft. in total space.
According to Les Affaires’ Matthieu Charest, the L’Avenue building at Ave des Canadiens and rue Drummond has signed a commercial lease with WeWork.
“By the end of 2016 or early 2017 WeWork will occupy the fourth, fifth and sixth floors. In total, approximately 60,000 square feet will be devoted to it,” wrote Charest.
WeWork’s current space in Montreal is housed on the fourth floor of Place Ville Marie. The international company is valued at $16 billion.
The company has declined requests for comment regarding a new space by several news organizations including MTLinTECH over the past two months. The similar answer each time - “At this time we don’t have any plans for a second WeWork location in Montreal” - has been echoed by the company as early as June 2nd and as late as Monday.
Regardless, the news seems to be a fascinating development in the fast-growing coworking industry in Montreal.
L’Avenue is the tallest residential tower in the city. Standing at 50 stories, the tower offers over 300 condos that are 95 per cent sold, as Roger Plamondon, senior vice president of Broccolini, told Charest.
The condos range from 500 to 1,500 sq. ft., with penthouses ranging up to 5,300 sq. ft.
