SingularityU satellite event in Montreal offers chance to discover new career trajectories

Today marks the first day of the SingularityU Canada Summit Montreal satellite event, taking place at Sid Lee through tomorrow.

The event, a collaboration between the SingularityU Canada Summit and District 3 Innovation Centre, will bring together some of the city’s most innovative minds in a chance to discover new career trajectories.

“We believe emerging technologies are radically changing our society and the way we live, work, and relate to one another at an unprecedented rate. In its scale and complexity, the transformation will be unlike anything humankind has experienced before. As a result, we need to develop new ways of adapting to these significant changes,” Sydney Swain-Simon told MTLinTECH.

“At District 3, we are rational optimists with a vision of creating a multidisciplinary innovation hub—bringing together innovators and entrepreneurs with key players from industry, government, research, and academia—to build a prosperous future. As part of Concordia University, we equip innovators and the Montreal community with the skills and mindset to succeed in an incredibly complex environment.”

The content will give participants the opportunity to think about how the world will change and the new questions that will arise as technology continues to play a more prominent role in our lives.

“We’ll be exploring fascinating questions such as: how can CRISPR technologies help us edit our genome to cure debilitating diseases? Will robots have rights? How will AI increase human intelligence?”

While a big focus of the event is to raise awareness about new job opportunities, it’s for more than purely students.

“We believe this is a great opportunity for students, professionals and entrepreneurs to hear from the city’s most innovative minds, discover new and exciting career and entrepreneurial opportunities, and get the chance to tinker with emerging technologies that are changing the way we live and work.”
