Shopify, Ubisoft highlight Glassdoor’s ‘Best Places to Work’ 2017

Glassdoor has named Ottawa’s Shopify the best place to work in Canada in its latest rankings that came out today.

Also making their mark in the rankings was Montreal’s Ubisoft (13), EY (20) and Deloitte (25).

In Canada, the 25 Best Places to Work showcases employers with 1,000 or more employees. The Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Awards are based “solely on the input of employees who voluntarily provide anonymous feedback, by completing a company review about their job, work environment and employer over the past year.”

This year, the awards are recognizing the Best Places to Work in the U.S., Canada, UK, France and Germany. Winners were ranked based on their overall rating achieved during the past year.

Canada’s top five are:

1. Shopify (4.5 rating)

2. Ceridian (4.5 rating)

3. ATB Financial (4.4 rating)

4. Salesforce (4.4 rating)

5. Cisco Systems (4.2 rating)

“Company culture and the employee experience are critical considerations for job seekers everywhere when deciding where to work. To help, the Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Awards recognize companies that truly stand out because they’re… determined by the authentic voice of those who really know a company best - the employees,” said CEO Robert Hohman. “Employers where employees love to work continue to prove that they have a recruiting and business performance edge.”

Glassdoor’s 25 Best Places to Work in 2017 in Canada list features winning employers across technology, finance, travel and tourism, construction, retail, and more. It’s Shopify’s first appearance on the Canada list.

Employees are asked to give their opinion on some of the best reasons to work for their employer (pros), any downsides (cons) and are encouraged to provide advice to management. Employees are also asked to rate how satisfied they are with their employer overall and to rate their CEO. In addition, employees are asked whether they would recommend their employer to a friend and whether they believe their employer’s business will perform better, worse or remain the same in the next six months.
