Local model creates tech-infused adjustable desk

As a model, fitness freak and personal trainer, Samuel Finn couldn’t figure out how people could kill themselves at the gym yet pay little attention to their health while at work.

With business partner Kimberley Pontbriand, Finn is today launching the Ergonofis height-adjustable desk. It allows people to work standing up or at a comfortable sitting position.

“We spend most of our lives sitting uncomfortably,” Finn, also a former junior hockey player in the QMJHL, told MTLinTECH. “We then try to fight our inactivity with boring diets and incredibly hard workouts. It’s now a known fact that no matter how well we eat or how much we exercise, if we don’t take care of our health during the other 98 per cent of the time, we’ll not only shave years off our lives, but we’ll also shave the pleasure out of the remaining ones.”

It’s a powerful message. Finn added that beyond better posture, there’s medical benefits in cholesterol and calorie levels that benefit those who sit or stand in a more ergonomically-correct positions.

The other thing that Finn and Pontbriand didn’t like about modern desks was their design. Finn said “there hasn’t been much innovation in office furniture since the very first day one of our bright ancestors built a desk. We’re here to change that.”

He said Ergonofis perfectly blends design and technology to “bring some life” into your furniture.

Finn is also planning to program wifi directly into the desk via an app, but he couldn’t comment too much beyond that.

For those looking for an Ergonofis desk, it won’t be cheap. The desks range from $1,298 to $3,499 (shipping included - yay!).
