“Goodfood is a great business and team of entrepreneurs solving the rising consumer demand for healthy and sustainable meal options,” said edō Capital’s Hamnett Hill.

After one year of operation, Goodfood, formerly known as Culiniste, grew from three to 50 employees, served over 150,000 meals in Ontario and Quebec and “developed over 300 unique recipes in their test kitchen.”

Goodfood will now embark on a commitment to serve 75,000 free meals to children in need by the end of 2016. As of April 1, the company will donate a meal to a child in need at a school in a community the company serves for every box purchased by customers.

“Sharing food is at the core of our business,” said CEO Jonathan Ferrari. “We believe that every child should have access to nutritious and tasty meals, which is why we’re partnering with local schools and charities.”

The company delivers fresh ingredients to customers. For less than $10, the startup says anyone can prepare and enjoy a healthy, high-quality meal in 35 minutes. Goodfood’s team of in-house chefs prepare original recipes, crafted with seasonal and local ingredients in mind. Refrigerated boxes are delivered to subscribers once a week, containing ingredients and easy-to-follow recipe cards.

Meanwhile, edō Capital is an early stage private equity firm that partners with entrepreneurs building business solutions for some of “the most pressing challenges facing the sustainability of our food systems.” It provides capital, experience, recruiting, operations and marketing support, helping entrepreneurs scale their businesses.
