Dynamic is launching a full-day design event for One & All
Dynamic/MTL, the event series that has brought attention to the future of publishing and the role of artists in times of political turmoil so far this year, is launching a full-day conference at Theatre Outremont this fall.
One & All will feature inspirational talks from some of the top creative minds in the world. The mix of more than 10 local and international speakers will include Jeremy Bailey (Famous New Media Artist), Lindsay Ballant (Multidisciplinary art director) HAWRAF (a Design Studio founded by 3 ex-Googlers), Sebastian Speier (Design Director at Nike), IDEO, and Glossier.
“We wanted to give it a try and see if we could do something that would reach more people and test the waters of what it looks like to throw an event this big with this amount of speakers in a new venue,” Dynamic founder André Valle told MTLinTECH. “So it’s the natural next step for us, since we’ve been filling up the PHI centre with 170 people. We had all these speakers we wanted to bring, and we wanted to see if we could do something with the level of content quality that we usually bring to Dynamic for $100.”
The goal is to bring together professionals from all sorts of different industries to talk about the role that design plays for their business.
“We have Masha Krol talking about the role of design at ElementAI, Alan Gertner talking about Tokyo Smoke, his new business where he sells a lot of stuff around the business of cannabis (but doesn’t sell cannabis itself).”
We wanted to see the different perspectives of all these people regarding design. So that’s the one line that connects them all, what their take is on design.
“IDEO is going to be there talking about design and research. We’re going to have ElementAI talking about what is the design in artificial intelligence, is it supposed to be invisible? And then Glossier, the VP Marketing will be talking about the role of design and marketing in a beauty startup. There are many different angles that we can look at design.”
Unlike Dynamic, where the setup has traditionally been three speakers who participate in a panel discussion at the end, One & All will give each speaker more space to do their own presentation, as well as some on-stage interviews.
“We’re going to give the speakers a little more space to talk. So every hour you’ll have a new speaker take to the stage and talk for 20-30 minutes. We’re going to have everything simultaneously translated, so it will be a bilingual conference. And we’re going to have one or two interviews, with people coming upstage and chatting about specific topics. But most and foremost it will be one speaker taking the stage and doing their presentation.”
You can buy tickets here for around $100, and the event will take place September 7th at Theatre Outremont. Doors open for registration at 8:15 am and there will be a 5 à 7 to follow.
“We’re trying this thing out to see if we can bring 800 people together, because the more people the better. It’s bringing everyone together for what our city deserves in terms of content, but also for the right price, a price that is more affordable to everyone.”
