Daniel Burka, Sylvain Carle highlight Dynamic/MTL design event
GV’s Daniel Burka and FounderFuel’s Sylvain Carle will be featured speakers at July 19’s Dynamic/MTL design event. The event will also see the Canadian premier of the documentary Design Disruptors, produced by New York-based InVision, a digital prototyping and workflow platform for designers.
The eighth edition of Dynamic/MTL will also feature a talk from the Heroine Podcast’s Maria Molfino and Dynamo’s Alex Nemeroff.
The event serves as a bridge between leaders in Canadian and American digital design, creating connections at both personal and corporate levels. The film premier will be held in collaboration with Crew.
The film examines the “transformative power of design,” and features Burka, Julie Zhuo of Facebook, Ben Blumenfeld of The Design Fund and more.
Carle, FounderFuel’s general manager, said it was an honour to be picked to speak at the event “alongside a famous Canadian like Burka.”
“The team at Dynamic/MTL has been doing a fantastic job of inviting people from abroad and provoking the conversation of why and how design matters,” said Carle.
“I’ll be exploring how a design perspective can position you at the forefront of what’s up and coming and how it can open up opportunities for innovative products. I’ll be sharing some of my experience working with founders that focus on design first. A good example is Sam Vermette at Transit App, a born-and-raised Montreal designer. He came up with his app idea really early in the cycle because he was thinking mobile first before others were,” added Carle.
GV’s (formerly known as Google Ventures) Burka is best known as the former creative director of Digg. Burka is one of the founders of the ‘Design Sprint’ concept, a five-day process for answering critical business questions through design, prototyping, and testing ideas with customers. Burka will share his experiences and case studies illustrating the benefits of this new approach to design thinking.
Dynamo, the company putting on the event, is one of a handful of design agencies using a new approach to digital product development and branding. Dynamo wrote that it “worked on one of GV’s first sprints for third-wave coffee company Blue Bottle Coffee, and have since incorporated this method into their regular project workflow.”
