BusBud announces Apple Pay integration

Busbud, the Montreal-based bus travel booking website boasting the largest coverage of its kind, announced Apple Pay integration to their platform.

The announcement makes Busbud the first player in the industry to offer its customers the ability to purchase their tickets with Apple Pay.

“On Busbud, travelers will be able use the Apple Pay feature on over 80% of our bus partners. Companies such as OUIBUS, ALSA, Eurolines, Trailways of New York, Red Coach, Civa & many more. Unfortunately, Apple Pay isn’t compatible with every operator in our inventory,” said Busbud Project Manager Eder Arsenio in a blog post on the company’s website.

The payment option is only available in Canada, the US, France, the UK, Spain, and Russia for the moment due to Apple restrictions. Additionally, users will not be able to purchase tickets with Apple Pay on Greyhound and other US carriers such as Baron Bus, Sprinter Bus, Best Bus, Southeastern Stages and Hoosier Ride.

“However, we are working closely with Greyhound to make this new feature compatible with them. We’re hopeful that Busbud travelers will be able to book Greyhound bus tickets with Apple Pay in the coming months,” said Arsenio.

Currently, users using Apple Pay to book their trip will be charged in USD, but as the payment method comes into use more widely, the company plans to integrate more currencies.

“Being a North American company, we prioritized the American market for this initial soft launch. But rest assured, we’re currently working on integrating european currencies through Apple Pay which includes the EURO and British Pound. We look forward to integrating more currencies as Apple Pay gains maturity throughout the rest of the world.”

Travelers can download the Busbud iOS app here.
