French multinational IT company Atos acquires local cybersecurity firm In Fidem

The French multinational IT company Atos is acquiring Montreal’s In Fidem, a cybersecurity consulting firm.

In Fidem’s roughly 100 employees will now work for Atos, which is looking to increase its strength in Canada and the United States.

“This strategic move will enable our customers to benefit from Atos’ extensive expertise, global presence and its leading rankings in Managed Security Services,” said In Fidem CEO Matthieu Chouinard. “We’re convinced that the combined capabilities of our portfolio and expertise with that of Atos’ will bring added value to our clients. We look forward to the next steps in our journey together.”

Meanwhile, Atos senior VP Pierre Barnabé said his company’s acquisition will reinforce its position in a fast-growing cybersecurity market, particularly in North America.

Atos is an IT service and consulting company headquartered in Bezons, a suburb of Paris, with offices in 73 countries. It has 110,000 employees and claimed roughly $18.6 billion in revenue ($12 billion euros) on its website, presumably from 2019.

Atos specializes in hi-tech transactional services, unified communications, cloud, big data and cybersecurity services. The company’s worldwide brands include: Atos, Atos|Syntel, Atos Consulting, Atos Healthcare, Atos Worldgrid, Groupe Bull, Canopy and Unify.

Moreover, Atos is no stranger to buying up other companies. The company itself formed as a merger between a pair of French companies, Axime and Sligos, in 1997, and a Dutch company, Origen, in 2000. Atos Origen then acquired KPMG Consulting in 2002 and SchlumbergerSema in 2004. In 2010 Atos Origin announced the buyout of Siemens IT Solutions and Services. It since reverted to its original name, Atos.

In Fidem holds expertise in cloud security, digital identity, risk management, security operations, digital forensics and cyber breach response. The Montreal-headquartered company was founded in 2005 and has offices in Québec City and Ottawa. In Fidem says several of its previous security clients were large private and public organizations.

The closing of the transaction is expected to take place in Q1 2021.
