AmpMe to attempt a world record at lighting of Jacques Cartier bridge for Montreal’s 375th anniversary
AmpMe, the Montreal-based music syncing app, will be attempting to set a world record at the lighting of the Jacques Cartier bridge tonight.
AmpMe is the official mobile music source for Montreal’s 375th birthday celebration, and tonight at 9:45 at the Plage de l’Horlage in Old Port, with the help of thousands of Montrealers, they will attempt to make history by synchronizing the most phones in perfect unison. They announced Spotify integration back in February.
“We live and breathe Montreal so we’re honored to invite Montrealers to come together to lend a hand in making the 375th anniversary of our great city part of the history books with this world record,” said AmpMe CEO Martin-Luc Archambault. “As the mobile music source for the bridge illumination ceremony that will light up downtown for years to come, AmpMe wanted to throw an event for the record books. Together with the city and community, we’re excited to create an experience that syncs thousands of phones and people together to celebrate as one. Join us on May 17th at the city’s best viewing location, Plage de l’Horloge, for an experience you’ll never forget and make history.”
“Gilbert Rozon, the chair of the 375MTL and founder of Just For Laughs, and Martin-Luc Archambault, founder of AmpMe, are both judges on the TV show Dans L’Oeil du Dragon, Quebec’s version of Dragons Den, and when they talked to each other of their respective projects, they saw a natural fit and wanted to make something happen to celebrate Montreal,” Alain Wong, AmpMe’s Director of Marketing told MTLinTECH.
Everyone in the Montreal area is invited to come watch the show and join in the attempt. AmpMe will be giving out thousands of branded Bluetooth speakers on a first come, first serve basis to anyone that can demonstrate they’ve downloaded the app and are ready to join in the record-breaking attempt.

“We pitched the idea to Moment Factory and the 375MTL organization of syncing everyone ‘to be the speakers”‘the night of the inaugural show, and it was well received. We’re actually saving the 375MTL organization money because they don’t have to set up huge sound systems for people to enjoy the music during the show— everyone will have a device on them and be able to play the music in sync together. We’re giving out 5000 Bluetooth speakers tonight to enhance this experience,” said Wong.
