$100,000 McGill Dobson Cup returns for student startups
McGill University’s $100,000 annual student startup competition is back for 2017. The Dobson Cup will be hosted by the McGill Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship, and is powered by National Bank.
Startups will be able to compete through four tracks: Innovation Driven Enterprise, Small & Medium Enterprise, Social Enterprise and Health Sciences. The $100,000 will be split up and awarded as seed funding.
Interested teams can fulfill their submissions between December 18 2016 and January 18 2017. The semi-finals will be held February 14-17
The Dobson Cup began in 2009 and has helped create more than 125 successful startups that continue to employ nearly 1,103 people. About 150 teams participated in last year’s Dobson Cup, while more than 1,000 teams (over 2,200 entrepreneurs) have pitched to successful entrepreneurs within the Dobson Centre network.
The Dobson Centre’s Renjie Butalid told MTLinTECH that they organizers are expecting more science and research-based submissions this year.
“We’ve been working closely with Invention Development and Entrepreneurship Assistance (IDEA), Innovations Catalyst in Engineering (ICE), the Faculty of Medicine, and the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, among many other partners at McGill. We’re expecting a lot more science and research-based submissions for the Dobson Cup 2017 from undergraduate students, graduate researchers and professors as well. We’re hoping that this will be our most competitive McGill Dobson Cup startup competition to date,” said Butalid.
At least one founder of the team must have a McGill affiliation, meaning any of the following: enrolled in an undergraduate program at McGill; enrolled in a graduate program at McGill; hold a staff, faculty or postdoctoral position at McGill; be a McGill alumni. If the sole McGill affiliation on a team is a McGill alumni, they must have graduated within the last 5 years. the cutoff point is January 31, 2012.

Today, I went to the beach front with my children.
I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year
old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off
topic but I had to tell someone!
